Most photos carry far more data than their purpose requires. A 12 MP phone shot is around 4 MB; the same picture at quality 80 is closer to 600 KB and, on a screen, looks identical.

How to use it

Picking a quality level
- 90-95 — visually lossless. Use for printing or archiving. Expect 30-50% off the original.
- 80-85 — the sweet spot for the web. Typically 60-75% smaller with no difference you would notice on a screen.
- 65-75 — visible softening in flat areas like skies if you look closely. Fine for thumbnails and email.
- Below 60 — obvious blocking and colour banding. Only when a hard size limit forces your hand.
Photographs tolerate compression well because JPEG was designed around how eyes handle gradual tonal change. Screenshots, logos and line art do not: their hard edges turn muddy. Keep those as PNG.
Why did my PNG get bigger?
PNG is lossless and works by finding repeated patterns. It is superb for flat colour and terrible for photographs, where no two adjacent pixels match exactly. Compressing a photographic PNG as PNG saves almost nothing.
Convert the photo to JPG or WebP instead — expect a 90% reduction. Keep PNG for screenshots, logos, diagrams and anything needing transparency.
Hitting a specific size limit
When a form demands "under 200 KB", guessing at quality is tedious. Compress to exact KB automates it: name your target and it searches for the highest quality that fits.
Questions
Does compressing lose quality?
JPG and WebP are lossy, so technically yes — but at quality 80 and above the loss is invisible at normal viewing distance. PNG output is lossless.
Can I compress without any quality loss?
Choose PNG output for true lossless. Savings will be modest for photographs.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Compression runs in your browser.
What is the maximum file size?
There is no imposed limit — only your device's available memory.
Will it strip EXIF data?
Yes. Re-encoding drops EXIF, including GPS coordinates. That is a privacy benefit for images you are about to publish.
Can I compress many images at once?
Yes, up to 30 per batch, with a single ZIP download at the end.
